The Live Mixtape (2023)
We recorded The Live Mixtape over the course of four sold-out concerts in January 2023 at WACO Theater Center in North Hollywood, California with an all-black orchestra.
I decided to record our first project in front of an audience because I kept struggling to make people who hadn't seen us live understand the energy in the room during the shows. South Side Symphony concerts are so dramatically different than the mental picture people have when they think of orchestral music, and not just because of the music we play. I wanted people to be able to hear the audience singing, screaming, laughing, crying, and cheering, because that energy influences our music and is just as much a part of South Side Symphony as the notes we play.
