About the Work:
“Nothing ever ends poetically. It ends and we turn it into poetry. All that blood was never once beautiful. It was just red.” ― Kait Rokowski
Normally when we hear the phrase “out for blood”, we think of an intense focus on vengeance, often to a fault. This hyperfocus or obsession is usually caused by something bad happening to a person, and most often doesn’t serve their best interests.
I struggle with this personally and aimed to reflect that obsession in the music of “Out for Blood”. In the first movement, I’m compositionally obsessed with the melodic motif that just keeps returning. In the second movement, the obsession is focused on a specific rhythmic figure that is repeated throughout.
